octave-optim software package provides unconstrained non-linear optimization toolkit for Octave, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install octave-optim
octave-optim is installed in your system.
Make ensure the octave-optim package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep octave-optim *
You will get with octave-optim package name, version, architecture and description in a table
